Care & Share 2008

When God calls... God indeed provide.

For the 1st time, I was asked to be the Regional Coordinator for the event.

Would have turn down the "offer" if not for the overwhelming peace that filled my heart.

I started off not knowing where to start but God provided
1. An advisor who went through the "whole process" of planning with me.
2. Committee members who are placed in the right role. Who were my "brains" - help me think through and work through
3. Idea - to enthrone Him before the start of the event. that we will not think it is our own effort but we need to depend on Him
A "levite" was there to lead the way(worship)
An "priest"(intercessor) to pray for the event.
4. 306 elderlies to attend

Looking back, I am thankful to God for
1. His Faithfulness
2. the opportunity to work with people I do not know and now I know
3. being able to labour together with good friends.
4. Healing - 1st time I recovered so fast from migraine
5. pastor who dares to take the risk. imagine putting a "big project" into the hands of someone who knows nothing about it and letting me work with my friends who may come up with "strangest" idea on earth. I wonder if he was praying "real hard" everyday. ; p
6. seeds of the Gospel that were sowed in the hearts of the elderly.

Thank God.

Decision leads to Consequences

I never knew that it was because of a decision that Abraham made led that to serious consequences until a few weeks back when i heard pastor preached over the pulpit.

In Gen 12, the Lord spoke to Abraham to leave his country to go to Canaan. But in v 10-20, it was said that "10 At that time a severe famine struck the land of Canaan, forcing Abram to go down to Egypt, where he lived as a foreigner.11 As he was approaching the border of Egypt, Abram said to his wife, Sarai, “Look, you are a very beautiful woman. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife. Let’s kill him; then we can have her!’ 13 So please tell them you are my sister. Then they will spare my life and treat me well because of their interest in you.”
14 And sure enough, when Abram arrived in Egypt, everyone spoke of Sarai’s beauty. 15 When the palace officials saw her, they sang her praises to Pharaoh, their king, and Sarai was taken into his palace. 16 Then Pharaoh gave Abram many gifts because of her—sheep, goats, cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.

17 But the Lord sent terrible plagues upon Pharaoh and his household because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram and accused him sharply. “What have you done to me?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ and allow me to take her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and get out of here!” 20 Pharaoh ordered some of his men to escort them, and he sent Abram out of the country, along with his wife and all his possessions."

Abraham went to Egypt without consulting God and though Abraham left Egypt, Egypt never left him. He had female servants from Eqypt with him and surely one of them was Hagar(Gen 16:3 - So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian servant and gave her to Abram as a wife.) who later gave birth to Ishmael( Gen 16 - 12 This son of yours will be a wild man, as untamed as a wild donkey! He will raise his fist against everyone, and everyone will be against him. Yes, he will live in open hostility against all his relatives.”).
Subsequently, there was conflict between Lot & Abraham's people and they were separated and then Lot & family got into trouble(refer Gen 13-14).
And I wonder if the "same lie" that Isaac told Abimelech was also the consequences of what Abraham has "decided"(Gen 26 : 7 When the men who lived there asked Isaac about his wife, Rebekah, he said, “She is my sister.” He was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “They will kill me to get her, because she is so beautiful.” ).

Hmmm...never knew 1 seemingly harmless decision can have impact on generations to come. Lord help me to make wise godly decision.

Because this was in your heart....

God gave King Solomon more than what he asked not just because he asked God for it but also because this was in his heart. Indeed God not only hear what we say but He knows what is in our heart.

Reference - 2 Chron 1: 11God replied to Solomon, Because this was in your heart and you have not asked for riches, possessions, honor, and glory, or the life of your foes, or even for long life, but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may rule and judge My people over whom I have made you king,12Wisdom and knowledge are granted you. And I will give you riches, possessions, honor, and glory, such as none of the kings had before you, and none after you shall have their equal.

He makes all things beautiful in His TIME

Amazing...I have not been well physically and have been troubled with certain issues that made me very discouraged. Last week(between the 10th to the 16th of Mar2008), I decided that next week,I will go to the healing room.Dun know why,I just wanted to go. Not because there's going to be miracle but something that I have to go get it for myself. So when next week is here, I had giddiness which was diagnosed as vertigo. Whaton earth is that? no idea. Then i kept thinking about my team mate- GW wondering how is she coping with her studies but was too tired n giddy to check on her. Thursday (20th Mar)came... I suddenly had LS n visited the toilet 5 times within 2 hours. My giddiness got worst and I wonder... hmmm... what is wrong? Guess all the more i had to bear with the discomfort n go to thehealing room as - i m reminded of 2 things
- 1. like the woman with the issue of blood,I have got to press in
- 2. Be humble. All these times I worry what will surface thru the prayer times n how ashamed i will be. If i hv to be like Naaman, who have to publicly dip in the river - the risk he is taking- then i shd.

At the prayer room... the heaviness on my heart was so tremendous but I was thankful for the sister who sat patiently with me. Right after the prayer time when i was on the way home,GW sms me to ask me how hv i been as I kept coming to her mind. She felt she has to asked. It was when she found out I am not well. She called to tell me that God is in control and God loves me cos she repeatedly brush the thot aside for the past few days, she decided she better just check.

It is so timely. He uses ways and people just to let me know He cares. And of all time...OnSunday, Someone just walk up to me to tell me God's mercy & faithfulness are new every morning. Tuesday nite,my fren felt that Lam 3: 22-23 was for me cos she felt the heaviness upon my heart more than the sickness. Thursday a sister told me that God loves us...GW called to tell me God put me in her mind and she prayed for me.

Thank YOU GOD!!!

"They" told me "one story"

(I) Caterpillar vs Butterfly
The word 'enbloc' came to my mind a few weeks back but I had a feeling that it has nothing to do with the the estate I am living in.
On Sat(10/11/07), my leader was sharing with me about the crack in her wall which was only plastered recently. I asked her why so fast got crack one??? Her answer to me was the wall is old. That answer stayed in my mind. On Sunday morning, Pastor Randy Hurst was preaching but I could not quite understand what he was trying to put across and I asked God.. what is it that He is trying to tell me thru this Pastor. Then something caught my attention. He said this is a year of transformation and he mentioned that transformation is like caterpillar becoming a butterfly. A caterpillar does not look like a butterfly at all. I do not know if cocoon feels pain but I think it must be very boring being stuck inside and I think when it is ready to come out, it takes great effort for the butterfly to break free. If we try to help by cutting open, the butterfly will never be able to fly and it will die prematurely. I suppose this process is painful.

If the butterfly persevere in "pushing", it's wings will be strengthen and instead of crawling, it will be flying. Instead of dying, it is given a new lease of life.

(II) Enbloc vs Renovation
It was then the word "enbloc" together with what my leader said about the wall came to my mind. It was as if God was telling me.. I have been using my own "intelligence" and the "means"(activities/friends) I know to "renovate(plaster)" my cracked heart . But the condition of the heart remains(as I was merely running away) tho on the surface it was well plastered. When "bad" things hit me again, my cracked heart "reveal" her true condition.

"Renovation" is a quicker and easier process but that is not what God wants me for me cos "plastering" only gives me a nice mask to hide the pain. If I allowed Him to "enbloc" - remove the old and give me the new, tho it is a long and difficult process, the end result will be new structure(new "belief system", new heart and new spirit). Also, I believe for an estate to be enbloc, the owners will pay to top up the lease for the land and so it is as if the lease for that land starts from year 0 again and I suppose if I allow God to enbloc, a new lease of life cos the new structure is built upon the Rock that cannot be shaken

(III) Eagle
Someone on Tuesday(13/11/07) reminded me that for an eagle to live to 70 years, in its 40s, it has to make a hard decision - to die or to go through a painful process which lasts 150 days.
The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountain top and sit on its' nest There the eagle knocks its' beak against a rock until it plucks it out After plucking it out, the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back and then it will pluck out its' talons When its' new talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its' old-aged feathers And after five months, the eagle takes its' famous flight of rebirth and lives for ... 30 more years

To live another 30 years, it has to go through 150 days of pain and fears(time when it is so vulnerable to attacks). Having gone through that 150 days, a new lease of life is given to the eagle.

(IV) My old mobile phone
It has been "silent" on me - no ringtone, cannot put on loudspeaker - for several weeks and I was kind of "giving" up hope and planning to get a "cheap" m/phone to replace it as I keep missing calls.

Yesterday(15/11/07), when I was holding my m/phone, I thought it feels like something is loose inside. So, I hit it against my palm a few times and then kept it in my bag.
About half an hour later, I heard a familiar ringtone. Hmmm... my phone "sings" again. Wow... after a few "hard knocks(tho it was me who suffers the pain and not the phone), my phone is given a "new lease of life"(tho... I dun know it will be for how many days/months/years).

Pain is something that I dislike to have as a "friend" but sometimes it is after going through this pain, having developed strength and character etc, a new lease of life is given.

Hmmm... it reminds me of Songs of solomon 2 : 11-12

See! the winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.

Will we allow God to bring me through it and live to tell of the Glory of God with the new lease of life He will give???

What "powers" do I have?

1. Power of believing in Each other
Bro Paul wrote in church's newsletter dd 14/01/07 abt Barnabas who believe in Paul when all others were afraid of him.

Acts 9:25-27
25But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.
26When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple.
27But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus.

He believed in John Mark when Paul thought it was unwise to bring him along and he even paid a price - "break" off his partnership with Paul so that John Mark has the "platform" to serve once again.

Acts 15 : 36-40
36Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing." 37Barnabas wanted to take John, also called Mark, with them, 38but Paul did not think it wise to take him, because he had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not continued with them in the work. 39They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, 40but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.
Footnotes

If no one gave John Mark a chance, will there be only 3 gospels in the Bible?

Have we ever realised that a simple act of believing in someone(who have failed us many times, or hurt us or who we think will never change etc) has such "power" to "energise" or "motivate" or "encourage" that someone? Do we know by believing in this someone means acceptance and love? And it may be they just need this one more dosage of believing from us to see them through that "season" of their life.

2. Power of my opinion/perspective/judgement/past experiences
Often we are misunderstood for our actions. We wish others will see our intentions and our heart. Yet many times, we judge others based on their actions or even "past actions". Our opinion affect how we relate with one another. If we desire to have deep & strong relationship with one another, we need to choose to exercise this "power" carefully.

(NIV)Gen 33:8 Esau asked, "What do you mean by all these droves I met?" "To find favor in your eyes, my lord," he said.
9 But Esau said, "I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself."
10 "No, please!" said Jacob. "If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favorably. 11 Please accept the present that was brought to you, for God has been gracious to me and I have all I need." And because Jacob insisted, Esau accepted it.

(NLT)8 “And what were all the flocks and herds I met as I came?” Esau asked.
Jacob replied, “They are a gift, my lord, to ensure your friendship.”
9 “My brother, I have plenty,” Esau answered. “Keep what you have for yourself.”
10 But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me. And what a relief to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the face of God! 11 Please take this gift I have brought you, for God has been very gracious to me. I have more than enough.” And because Jacob insisted, Esau finally accepted the gift.

(The Message)10-11 Jacob said, "Please. If you can find it in your heart to welcome me, accept these gifts. When I saw your face, it was as the face of God smiling on me. Accept the gifts I have brought for you. God has been good to me and I have more than enough." Jacob urged the gifts on him and Esau accepted.

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Romans 13:8
we nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

3 Power of thoughts...
"As a man thinketh so is he."... cannot remember exactly where the verse is. hmm... have got to really check what i "feed" my mind with...

4. Power of Words
Proverbs 18:21The tongue can bring death or life;those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

May God help me to watch what I say....

ASK then go FACE IT

NASB

2 Kings 6
The Axe Head Recovered 1Now (
A)the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "Behold now, the place before you where we are living is too limited for us.
2"Please let us go to the Jordan and each of us take from there a beam, and let us make a place there for ourselves where we may live." So he said, "Go."
3Then one said, "Please be willing to go with your servants." And he answered, "I shall go."
4So he went with them; and when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.
5But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, "Alas, my master! For it was borrowed."
6Then the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" And when he showed him the place, (
B)he cut off a stick and threw it in there, and made the iron float.
7He said, "Take it up for yourself." So he put out his hand and took it.

The Amplified
5But as one was felling his beam, the axhead fell into the water; and he cried, Alas, my master, for it was borrowed!
6The man of God said, Where did it fall? When shown the place, Elisha cut off a stick and threw it in there, and the iron floated.
7He said, Pick it up. And he put out his hand and took it.

NKJV
5 But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed.” 6 So the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 7 Therefore he said, “Pick it up for yourself.” So he reached out his hand and took it.

Someone shared abt the passage yesterday at prayer meeting... something that he said kept ringing in my mind. The man of God asked where did the axehead fall? Took a stick and cos the impossible to take place - iron floated.

It speaks to me - when the axehead fell - it is a place/area of my failure = which immediately the 1st area was my inability to express and follow by it a specific incident that took place 2 weeks back.

When the son of Man asked where - it is like God asking me where have I failed? And I have to "re-visit" the "place" I failed in order to tell Him. I have to face it with Him.

He showed him the place = is like surrendering to God

Axehead float - God did the impossible

Likewise.. I nid to re-visit the incident... face the failure this time round with Him. He will do what I cant do...

v7 - I will have to do what is required of me.

Lord.. this is where I failed. I am ready to surrender.. to re-visit it n move on from there.
